Getting back in the saddle:
Reclaiming independence and freedom from limitations
In one instant, life changes forever.
An injured spine and paralysis leaves you feeling helpless – without hope.
Sure, there’s basic therapy after your injury – but it’s never enough to relearn how to do all the things you need to do to manage what many take for granted – grooming, writing, using a computer, and plenty more.
And it’s not just one life that changes, but entire families. Loved ones can be just as injured as they feel helpless to offer help. But what to do? That’s the inspiration and mission of Merica Strong.
The “Merican Dream”:
Life on a ranch with professional support
We invite people with disabilities, and their families, to live a “life without barriers” in the beautiful outdoors.
Working with rescued animals and doing ranch working activities in a community like ours can help everyone recover and become stronger.
No pressure. Our staff focuses on what people can do, and to show them and their caregivers that goals are attainable. Barriers can be broken. We have more freedom than we ever thought possible.
The human spirit:
Connecting with animals
Merica Strong Founder Dustin Bunch, who had suffered a spinal cord injury, discovered the power of working with animals - wild or tame, large or small – to recover abilities and spirit.
He saw how solutions seem clearer after working with a strong, highly intuitive 1,200-pound horse that commands attention and demands full focus. An experience like this offers emotional and rational feedback that helps us become stronger and more independent.
Any work with animals of all kinds can help. Feeding a bison herd, or sitting with a rescued dog or cat can help us become more self-sufficient. These experiences help people better perceive actions and reactions as they think about solving life challenges. Meeting even small goals working with animals reinforces a sense of accomplishment.
And all the animals at our ranch will be rescue animals, reminding everyone that life often gives a second chance.
High standards, patients in control
Merica Strong is solidly committed to high standards. That’s important to the success of any therapy program. At our ranch, we will have licensed professional trainers and therapists to help guests get the therapeutic attention and support they need as they make life-changing progress.
We also know that patients know best what types of changes will improve their own lives. So we are also committed to design customized programs to take advantage engaging the unique, intuitive power of animals along with other people in a safe and supportive setting.
If you're looking to break free from your limitations and embark on a journey of recovery, we invite you to join us at our ranch.
With our expert guidance, the healing power of nature, and the support of a community of like-minded individuals, anything is possible.
